Legally Blonde Auditions are Here!

Brooke Wachter

So it’s that time of year again folks: musical time! This year, our musical is Legally Blonde. If you love to sing and want to try acting, then this musical is perfect for you! If you don’t want to sing, don’t worry: there are plenty of non-singing roles available. Either way, joining the theatre crew is sure to be a blast!

Acting auditions are from 2:30 PM to around 7 PM, and are from Wednesday to Friday. If you plan to audition, you’re required to come on all three days because each day assesses a different quality. On Wednesday, you’ll sing a couple lines from the musical for Mrs. Gvakharia. Mrs. G has sheet music so if you want to practice ahead of time, go see her in J-hall. On Thursday, you’ll perform a monolog for Mr. Foren. The most common monologs are scenes from TV shows, movies, and even other plays.etc. On Friday, a dance instructor teaches a dance that you’ll perform with a random group as best you can.

Actors aren’t the only ones who’re needed, though! Theatre also needs technicians who can work in a variety of areas: sound, lighting, costume, props, construction, paint, publicity, run crew, hair, and make-up! All of these positions are needed to put on the show, but some of them require students to be at rehearsals more than others. Worried that you simply don’t have enough experience? Don’t worry: the theatre crew will always be happy to lend a hand.

Technician auditions are on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. My advice? Wear clothes that you aren’t afraid to get dirty! Technicians do a lot of the “dirtier” work when putting on a show, but by no means are they any less important! Audition consist of a one-on-one interview with Mrs. Foren, where you’ll talk about yourself and why you want to be a technician.

If you want to be both an actor and a technician, you can come for both auditions. Many actors are also technicians, so you won’t be alone in doing so! If you want to learn more about the characters, then I suggest watching the musical first. If you have any questions, just ask Mr. Foren and Mrs. Gvakharia in J-hall. If you miss one of the days for the acting auditions, Mr. Foren will personally work with you. Good luck at your auditions! Or as theatre kids say, “Break a leg!”
